In her 2009 TED talk, "The Danger of a Single Story", Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie discusses the importance of maintaining an informed, diverse global perspective. This portfolio traces my experiences with navigating various blind spots in my own perspective as well as those I have observed in the common American historical perspective.
My Portfolio
As a history major at Howard University, the art of storytelling has become a major aspect of my work and research. The Western tradition of storytelling often centers the supposedly 'dominant' cultures of conquest, colonialism, and oppression, which cultivates incomplete Eurocentric historical perspectives. The Young People's Black Pedagogical Activism Lab exposed me to valuable perspectives across various generations, time periods, and cultures. As a result, I have noticed a shift in the way I consider whose stories are told and the ways in which they are honored. This digital portfolio highlights several impactful experiences that I was able to participate in as a student researcher in the lab.
